Sterling, Illinois – So Much To Do, So Little Time

Posted on: August 15th, 2017

Sterling, Illinois is known for its association with manufacturing and metalworking, and though that may be one aspect of our city, Sterling has a lot to offer its citizens besides steel! In addition to many parks and outdoor activities, our city has plenty that keeps us busy throughout the year that we often find ourselves saying “so much to do, so little time!”

Citywide Events

With a population of only fifteen thousand, Sterling certainly doesn’t seem like a small town. Sterling definitely provides us with plenty to keep us busy. No matter what time of year it is you can certainly find something for everyone.

Even though summer is winding down, we can’t leave out the amazing summer events that fill our beautifully warm nights.

If you’re looking for a music festival we have a few to choose from!

You can go to the Municipal Band Concert under the stars every Wednesday night and enjoy a lovely night of free orchestra music and company!

Grandon Civic Center

We are also lucky enough to enjoy a farmer’s market! No longer are farmer’s markets just for summer; our awesome market is open year round! Located in our historic Twin Cities produce building, you can come on Saturday between 8 AM and noon for some amazing local produce, art, and pastries.

If your interests lie more with cars you should check out our annual car show! Every May you can see all the awesome varieties of cars that visit from “rat rods to classics.”

Federal Financial Aid: Keep Beauty School Possible

Posted on: August 1st, 2017

Cosmetology School Is Not Out Of Reach

While we are not screaming that statement from the rooftops, we probably should. After all, it’s important, but most people don’t know it.
The biggest things that keeps people from pursuing their dreams of becoming a cosmetologist are financial roadblocks.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
No matter if you are living paycheck to paycheck, or simply don’t have enough in savings, you can make your cosmetology dreams come true thanks to some of the many options that we have available at Educators of Beauty.

Beauty school financial aid

Federal Financial Aid

We are proud to be able to offer financial aid to students who qualify. As an accredited school approved by the United States Department of Education, we are able to offer Title VI funds to our students. Known as financial aid or student loans to much of the public, the government offers several different types of aid to students.

    • Federal Direct Subsidized Loans

These loans operate much the same way as standard loans. However, while you are enrolled in school, or while the loans are in deferment, the interest is paid by the federal government. This can be a huge help once you begin paying on your loans as the amount owed could be greatly reduced. However, an approved student can only borrow so much of these types of loans, which makes it important to speak to a financial advisor and borrow wisely.

    • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans

Different than the subsidized loans, these loans have no assistance from the federal government with the interest being the full responsibility of the student. While that can impact the repayment later, you can make payments on all of these loans while you are in school, decreasing your overall interest and repayment amount.

    • Federal Direct PLUS Loans

PLUS loans are federal loans that are taken out by the parents of dependant undergraduate students. If you are under 18 and your parents are interested in helping pay for your school, this is an option that you should look into.

    • Pell Grants

Different than loans, the Federal Pell Grant is distributed to qualifying students based on need, in varying amounts per year. Although this grant does have a lifetime gap, it does not need to be repaid, meaning that depending on the qualifying amount you could see a significant amount of your schooling cost paid for.

How to Apply for Federal Student Aid

apply for beauty school

Once you have decided to attend the beauty school of your dreams, there are a few steps you should take to prepare for your first day and get all of your financial aid in place.

      • Sit Down With an Advisor

Once you have applied for your chosen school make sure to schedule a time to sit down with the financial aid advisor. Even if you feel confident in your knowledge of financial aid, it is important to meet with your advisor and make sure everything is completed and in place. This can help to make sure you will not only get the full amount of aid possible, but that there is no issue that will cause a delay in your start date.

      • Meet the Requirements

As with most things, there are qualifications that you need to meet before you can apply for financial aid. These may be different than the qualification to apply for your school of choice, so be aware of the differences to avoid any pitfalls.

        1. Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
        2. Hold a high school diploma or a general education diploma (GED)
        3. Have a valid social security number

        Fill out the FAFSA

You have sat down with the advisor, you meet the requirements, you have applied for your chosen school. Now comes the most important part of the financial aid process. Apply for the FAFSA.
The Free Application For Student Aid is the government application that will help to determine the award amount you will receive, as well as what types of loans and grants you qualify for. To apply, visit FAFSA’s website and follow their easy steps for application.

Beauty school does not have to be out of reach! No matter your financial situation an education in beauty is possible! Contact us today to discover how our financial aid options could benefit you, and lead you towards a career that could take you from paycheck to paycheck to a life changing career.
